2010-04-26 Abstract acceptance started
Today we have started with the abstract acceptance notification process. Because of the high number of abstracts (~1680) and because of the longer submission and shorter evaluation periods, that process will take about one week.
All abstract rejections were communicated earlier.
Please wait for your personal abstract acceptance e-mail in the coming week. Please contact us for an earlier confirmation only if you really need it urgently.

WSC3: Quantitative image analysis of minerals and rocks (short course)

Date: August 28-29 (post-conference)

Venue:. Eötvös L. University Danube Riverside Campus (Lágymányos), Budapest (Hungary) (IMA2010 conference venue)

Scientific sponsors:

This Short Course is a joint organization of IMA2010 and IAMG2010 international conferences both held in Budapest at two days interval. It is held under the auspices of three societies:

  • Commission on Applied Mineralogy (IMA-CAM)
  • International Association for Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG)
  • International Association for Stereology and Image Analysis (ISS)

Contact person: Eric Pirard (GeMMe, Université de Liège, eric.pirard@ulg.ac.be)

Convenors: Eric Pirard (GeMMe, Université de Liège), Patrick Launeau (Université de Nantes)

Length (days): 2

Brief summary: This Short Course is intended to initiate mineralogists and geologists to the use of quantitative tools in microscopy. This includes the appropriate use of image acquisition technologies in 2D and 3D (digital imaging with optical, electronic and X-ray instruments), as well as an introduction to the principles of stereology and image analysis used in measuring the size and shape of grains and particles as well as the fabric and textural properties of rocks.

The Short Course will be taught by leading scientists in their fields who will illustrate theoretical aspects with a series of case studies in mineralogy, particle science and petrography.
